The Naming Scheme for Buildings in School
The Two-Name Principle （there are two names for one building, including the name of the foundation and the name of Chinese moral）is adopted in the process of naming the building complex.
Principle 1: Relevance. The name of each building should have relevance with the name of the teaching building for the senior high students (such as Zhanchi Building) for keeping the same cultural context.
Principle 2: Memorability. Each name of a building should cover its visual appearance and cultural connotation as well as readability and acceptability.
二、命名：Naming of the buildings
1. Zhanchi Building: The teaching building for the senior high students
The Zhanchi Building is the teaching building for the senior high students. The top of this building looks like the spreading wings of a wild goose，that's why the students and the teachers call it the Zhanchi building. Zhanchi means“spreading wings” in Chinese. In addition, Zhanchi symbolizes imagination，and also means hope that each student can achieve success just like a wild goose can always fly high in the sky.
So the implied meaning of the Zhanchi Building is “Aim high and down to the earth”
2. Yuying building: Dormitory; Yucai building: Dormitory
These are the two dormitory buildings located on the east and west side of the school gate. On the top of both, there are two bartizans: The bartizans on the east stands a clock, on the west stands the school badge, which is quietly watching the development of the teachers and students in the school. To keep all the teachers and students to remember the roots of the school, those two buildings are named after the former names of the two liberated areas: The Yucai School which belongs to the Taihang administrative office and the Yuying School which belongs to the Taiyue administrative office. From their geographical position those two buildings are corresponding to the Taihang and Taiyue liberated areas as well.
Moral: To remember the history and to fulfil the responsibilities; to show the future and to develop the talent.
3. Building of Excellence: a building for Scientific and technological experiments as well as a teaching building for Tibetan students.
The work in this building combines scientific experiments and national education all together. It is the palace where students and teachers seek scientific truth and display technological creativity. Shaped in a square, the building is outlined in grey, a color of modern technology, corresponding with the arch pattern of the Zhanchi building as a soaring bird as well as the kindred spirit of school culture for the pursuit of excellence.
That is why it is named the Building of Excellence.
The implications it carries are as follows: Truth searching prudently and precisely; the pursuit of excellence independently and progressively.
4. Zhiyuan Building, the Teaching Building of the Middle School Affiliated to Shanxi University
Located in the Northeast corner of our campus, this building is now used as the Teaching Building of the Middle School Affiliated to Shanxi University. It was once the Teaching Building of Shanxi Zhida Experimental School, which had a great number of excellent graduates. In memory of the contributions that Shanxi Zhida Experimental School has made to the development of our school and more importantly, to encourage our students to bear the school motto “Aim high, down to earth in mind. This building is named the Zhiyuan Building. This name has much to do with the characteristics of middle school education.
Meaning: Learn to use; use to succeed. Start from the small things and lay a solid foundation for future lives.
