Overview of the Affiliated High School of Shanxi University
Founded in 1955, the Affiliated High School of Shanxi University (abbreviated to SDFZ ), is one of the first batch of key high schools in Shanxi Province. It started as The School for Cadres’Children in Taihang Military Region and Taiyue Military Region, which moved to Taiyuan later. In 1963, the school was accredited as one of the provincial key high schools.
Situated in Wucheng District of Taiyuan, SDFZ covers an area of 80,000 square meters with the favourable humanist environment --- dozens of colleges and scientific research institutes of Shanxi Province neighbour on the school. The campus is elegantly-designed, user-friendly and digitalized with such aids of teaching facilities as internet and multimedia.
During the long period of schooling practice, SDFZ has gradually formed the principles of “people-centered and sustained development”, “ being virtuous and learned, and good at both liberal arts and sciences By developing the school--oriented courses with distinguishing features, the school has a creative educational mode to cultivate students to develop on their own initiative, to explore personal potentialities and to give scope to everyone 's special skills. A favorable surrounding is thus provided for both teachers and students to have an all-round, harmonious and sustained development. Every year approximate 1,000 students win prizes of the National Olympic Competitions in the natural sciences and liberal arts. In the Annual National College Entrance Examinations, both in Taiyuan and in Shanxi Province, SDFZ has ranked top in the proportion of students entering the most renowned top 10 universities in China. More than 40 students are admitted into Peking University and Tsinghua University. There are a large number of talented students revealing themselves on campus annually.
Nowadays SDFZ has developed into one of the nation-renowned high schools affiliated to universities, with its remarkable accomplishments and its unique school culture. It has been conferred the following titles : National Advanced Organization in Education, National Model Group for the Unity and Advancement of Nationalities, National Advanced Institution in Physical Education ,May Day Labors'Model of Shanxi Province, Provincial Beacon School with Distinctive Characteristics, Provincial Pilot School for Moral Education, Civilized School of Shanxi Province, Superior Institution for Teaching Quality of Taiyuan, Exemplary Leading Group, and Outstanding Contributor to the Cultivation of Distinguished Students. SDFZ is also listed as National Experimental School in Science and Technology among Youth, Shanxi Provincial Experimental Base for the Fundamental Education Research, the Teaching Demo-Base of High School Teachers' Training Center in Shanxi Province and the "Talents Pool" by many national key colleges and universities.
Just as the saying goes:" it takes 10 years to grow trees, but 100 to cultivate people". The new millennium brings us the historic mission of reform.
